The 21st century is no different than the rest of human history
People living in homogenous communities, they still plague the world with their bigotry now
All the world should be no less than slack-jawed
At the sheer volume of intolerance, hatred, misguided fear
It feels on the rise for the first time in years
But no alarm has been raised cause it's contentment that we crave

And being under the impression that it will all be alright
Won't stop the stones in the air or make it safe to go outside at night

Racial slurs cut like pieces of shrapnel
But suburban youth continue to spit them like they're some kind of acceptable mouthful
Cause they don't understand what four centuries of struggle can do to the hearts of man
What's this shit I hear about "post-racial?"
Equality, though still an ideal, is hardly paid for
Perhaps if we remove our heads from our asses
It'll be more apparent that change is still slow as molasses

And being under the impression that it will all be alright
